Using emotional prayers, mesmerizing harmonies, and hopeful texts, three composers set religious texts to convey their message and inspire the listener to action. Sarah Kirkland Snider’s riveting Mass for the Endangered opens the program, inspired by the traditional Catholic Mass while focusing on our relationship to the wildlife of our planet. The second half opens with Holst’s crystalline Psalm 148 and leads into Bernstein’s spirited and dynamic Chichester Psalms.
